Sainz commits to Williams beyond 2026 with multi-year deal

Carlos Sainz has agreed a new multi-year contract with the Atlassian Williams F1 Team.[1] The deal keeps the Spaniard at the squad into 2027 and beyond, pairing him once more with Alex Albon.[2] Williams made the announcement on 19 August 2026, one day after confirming Albon's extension for the following season.[3]
Sainz joined Williams ahead of the 2025 campaign after departing Ferrari. He contributed two podiums that year as the team finished fifth in the constructors' championship. The 2026 season has proved more difficult, with the car struggling for pace and the team sitting ninth in the standings after eleven races.[1]
Long-term commitment
The team statement described the extension as a show of faith in Williams' project to compete at the front of the grid.[2] Sainz expressed confidence in the people and investments at the factory and on track. He noted his ongoing commitment to helping the team return to its former standing.[1]
Williams team principal James Vowles highlighted Sainz's value both on track and in the factory. The announcement completes the 2027 driver line-up for the team's 50th anniversary season in Formula 1.[2]
