Racing Bulls
Alan Permane began his F1 career in 1989 as a test electronics engineer at the Benetton F1 team after completing an electronic engineering apprenticeship. He remained with the Enstone-based operation through its transitions to Renault, Lotus, and Alpine, progressing to race engineer, chief race engineer (2007), chief operating officer (2011), and sporting director (2012), accumulating championship wins with Michael Schumacher and Fernando Alonso. He departed Alpine following the 2023 Belgian Grand Prix and joined Racing Bulls (then called Visa Cash App RB) in January 2024 as racing director under team principal Laurent Mekies. When Mekies was promoted to CEO of Red Bull Racing following Christian Horner's departure in July 2025, Permane was elevated to team principal of Racing Bulls, a role he continues to hold through the 2026 season.
