McLaren brings revised sidepods to Baku as part of ongoing upgrade push
McLaren has introduced a substantial aerodynamic package for the 2026 Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku, featuring dramatically revised sidepods alongside changes to the engine cover, floor, diffuser and rear wing. The updates form part of the team's continued development programme ahead of the Singapore Sprint weekend.
Baku upgrade details
McLaren arrived at the 2026 Azerbaijan Grand Prix with a wide-ranging aerodynamic package that includes a revised sidepod inlet shape, engine cover and coke line, alternative sidepod geometry, new floor edge, diffuser revisions, rear suspension fairings and a modified rear wing for greater drag reduction in straight-line mode. [1] Cooling louvres were also adjusted for the Baku circuit. The FIA technical submission lists eight updates for the team, most aimed at performance through improved flow conditioning.
The sidepod inlet redesign draws inspiration from Audi's vertical opening approach while adopting a steeper slope profile seen on Mercedes and Ferrari cars earlier in the season. [2] These changes alter airflow management from the front axle onward.
