Herta Remains Two Points Short of FIA Super License
Colton Herta needs two more Super License points after a hydraulic failure ended his Monza FP1 session early for Cadillac. The American test driver failed to cover the required 100 kilometres and now sees his 2026 Formula 1 prospects recede further.
Monza Setback Costs Herta Crucial Mileage
Colton Herta remains two Super License points short of the FIA threshold following a hydraulic failure during his FP1 outing for Cadillac at the Italian Grand Prix in Monza.[1] The Cadillac test and development driver completed only five laps before the team instructed him to stop the car. He therefore missed the 100 kilometres required to earn the additional point available to drivers completing a rookie session without penalty.
Herta endured a challenging weekend that included a heavy crash in Formula 2 practice and an early retirement from the feature race.[2] The FP1 interruption proved especially costly because it eliminated his final realistic opportunity to close the points gap before the end of the season.
FIA Investigation Adds to Weekend Complications
Stewards summoned Herta after the session over a suspected technical non-compliance related to the clutch disengagement system on the Cadillac. The FIA issued the team a partially suspended fine but took no further action against the driver.[3]
Herta had completed two prior FP1 appearances for Cadillac earlier in 2026 without incident. Those runs had kept his Super License target within reach until the Monza problem.
