Antonelli started from pole with no new Soft left, and the two Red Bulls behind him had two each. [6] The Mercedes driver's choice to commit to a single stop proved decisive. Lando Norris, the British driver, completed 40 laps on Hard tyres in his final stint of the race. [2] Norris's extended Hard-tyre stint in fifth position underscored how the durable C2 compound enabled a one-stop approach for front-runners, a strategy that provided a more viable long-stint option than last year's C1, favoring one-stop strategies for many teams. Decisive Moments

Once racing resumed, Antonelli's medium tires proved more than a defensive choice. He set a 1:40.330 on lap five and held Verstappen at roughly three seconds as the advantage of the early soft tire began to fade. [3]

Isack Hadjar fell back through the order; after starting from third, he finished in sixth place. [2] His grid position offered little protection against the race dynamics that favored the two teams with better tire allocation and long-run pace.

Championship Impact

Antonelli's ninth win moved him closer to the championship, but Hamilton's recovery to fourth meant the title could not be settled in Austin. On the provisional results, Antonelli will take 365 points to Mexico City, 123 ahead of Russell and 124 ahead of Hamilton. [3]

With only 100 points available after Mexico, ninth place will guarantee Antonelli the title regardless of anyone else's result. Russell can delay him only by winning while Antonelli finishes 10th or lower; Hamilton must win with Antonelli outside the points. [3] Antonelli already holds the countback advantage with nine victories, so Mexico offers him a considerably wider road to the championship than Austin did. [3]

The Mercedes driver now holds a commanding 123-point advantage over George Russell, with five races remaining and 125 points still available. Crucially, the Italian could secure his maiden title as early as next weekend in Mexico City. [7]
