FIA Announces Regulation Refinements
The FIA confirmed a series of adjustments to the 2026 Formula 1 technical regulations following an online meeting with team principals, power unit manufacturers, and Formula 1 management.[1]
The primary focus lies on energy management parameters. Maximum permitted recharge drops from 8 megajoules to 7 megajoules in qualifying. This aims to curb excessive harvesting and promote more consistent full-throttle running.
Additional modifications include raising the superclipping threshold from 250 kilowatts to 350 kilowatts. The measures seek to balance performance while addressing safety concerns tied to speed differentials.
Implementation Timeline
The agreed changes apply from the Miami Grand Prix onward. Race-start procedures receive separate testing in Miami with potential adoption after review. All parties endorsed the package without dissent.[1]
