Answer
Confirmed

Several F1 drivers including Carlos Sainz, George Russell, Oscar Piastri and Alex Albon spent time in Langkawi, Malaysia, karting, cycling and training ahead of the Sepang and Singapore races to prepare for heat and humidity.

Drivers gather in Langkawi for heat preparation

Several Formula 1 drivers spent time in Langkawi, Malaysia, ahead of the 2026 Bahrain Grand Prix at Sepang and the Singapore Grand Prix. Carlos Sainz, George Russell, Oscar Piastri and Alex Albon joined others including Oliver Bearman and Gabriel Bortoleto for karting, cycling, hiking and gym sessions.[1]

The group arrived after the Azerbaijan Grand Prix and chose the island resort over direct travel to Kuala Lumpur. Activities included rental kart races and outdoor training suited to hot, humid conditions expected in Malaysia and Singapore.[1]

Lando Norris participated in some sessions but skipped karting. Former driver Roberto Merhi joined the karting. Russell described the location as ideal preparation.[2]

Training focus ahead of demanding races

The shared downtime highlights how drivers balance intense competition with practical preparation for physically taxing events like Singapore. Such sessions can support consistent performance without altering on-track dynamics.
