McLaren introduces rotating H-wing for Monza

Answer
Confirmed

McLaren will run its rotating H-wing rear wing for the first time in competition at the 2026 Italian Grand Prix in Monza. The low-drag device follows trials in Hungary and aims to cut drag on straights at the high-speed circuit.

McLaren's Monza upgrade

McLaren will introduce its rotating rear wing, called the H-wing, at the 2026 Italian Grand Prix in Monza.[1] The team confirmed the first competitive use on both cars alongside minor aerodynamic updates and low-drag parts suited to the track layout.[2]

The device rotates 180 degrees between cornering and straight-line modes to reduce drag. McLaren trialed a version in Hungary free practice before committing to Monza as the initial race opportunity.[2]

Naming and context

The H-wing name follows McLaren's 2010 F-duct tradition. It references the H in the Etihad Airways logo on the rear wing rather than any external reference.[1]

Analysis

Monza's long straights make low-drag solutions particularly valuable. The H-wing builds on concepts first seen from Ferrari and later Red Bull. McLaren's version uses a central actuator and three-link mechanism.
