Monza requires low-drag aero packages and repeated heavy braking into chicanes. McLaren has identified both areas as relative MCL40 shortcomings. Team principal Andrea Stella stated that aerodynamic drag is not one of the car's strengths and that heavy braking zones represent another area needing verification.[1]
The upcoming Italian Grand Prix therefore serves as a key benchmark for the Woking squad. Recent high-downforce successes at Hungary and Zandvoort do not guarantee competitiveness when the car must run minimal wing levels on long straights.
