Imola Positions Itself for Potential Second Italian Race in 2026

Answer
Confirmed

ACI president Geronimo La Russa stated that Italy is preparing to host a second Formula 1 Grand Prix at Imola later in the 2026 season if Middle East conflicts disrupt the calendar. The move would add a second Italian race alongside the Monza event. Preparations involve government and sporting bodies.

ACI Confirms Preparations

Automobile Club d'Italia (ACI) president Geronimo La Russa confirmed that Italy is actively preparing to host a second Formula 1 Grand Prix at Imola this season.[1] The plan would activate if ongoing conflicts in the Middle East prevent the championship from concluding at its usual Abu Dhabi venue.

La Russa identified Imola as the ideal location during remarks at a recent event. Work is underway with government and sporting institutions to ensure readiness for an additional round in the coming months.[1]

Calendar Context

Imola previously hosted the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix from 2020 to 2025 before dropping from the 2026 schedule in favor of Madrid's new circuit.
