Background to the Dispute
Pierre Gasly crossed the line third in the 2026 Monaco Grand Prix on June 7 but received two five-second penalties for pit-lane speeding that dropped him to seventh. Red Bull's Isack Hadjar took the podium position. Alpine requested a right of review and presented evidence of a timing error. Stewards accepted the new evidence on June 12 and rescinded both penalties, restoring Gasly to third place.[3]
McLaren and Red Bull lodged notifications of appeal on June 16 against the revised classification and points. The FIA confirmed the International Court of Appeal will convene in Paris on August 25 to deliver a final ruling.[1][2]

The appeals focus on the accuracy of pit-lane speed calculations and consistency of enforcement across teams. Several drivers received similar penalties during the race. McLaren noted that Oscar Piastri served a penalty under the original interpretation of the rules.
