Teams must fit driver cooling systems, raising minimum car weight by 5 kg. Drivers may wear cooling vests or add 0.5 kg of ballast instead. The declaration follows Article B1.5.10 of the regulations and marks the fourth such event in recent seasons.
FIA confirms heat hazard declaration
The FIA has declared a heat hazard for the 2026 Italian Grand Prix at Monza. The decision follows forecasts that the heat index will exceed 31.0 degrees Celsius during the event.[1]
The measure activates under Article B1.5.10 of the FIA Formula 1 Sporting Regulations. Teams must install the full driver cooling system hardware on every car. Minimum vehicle weight rises by 5 kg to account for the added equipment.[2]
Drivers retain the choice to wear the optional cooling vest or carry an extra 0.5 kg of ballast in the cockpit if they decline the vest. The system must remain fitted and functional throughout the weekend regardless of individual preference.[2]
