Russell accepts Antonelli controls title fight
George Russell has conceded that teammate Kimi Antonelli controls the 2026 drivers' championship after the Italian's Monza victory extended their gap to 66 points with 10 rounds remaining.

George Russell stated after the Italian Grand Prix that Kimi Antonelli controls the drivers' championship. Antonelli won from 19th on the grid at Monza, extending the lead to 66 points with 10 rounds left.[1]
Russell finished second and said he is not thinking about a comeback. He described the gap as exceptionally challenging to overcome.[2]
The result followed a virtual safety car that prompted a strategy split. Antonelli pitted for fresh tires while Russell stayed out on older rubber. Antonelli closed the gap and passed Russell with three laps remaining.[3]

Antonelli's seventh victory of the season came despite an engine penalty that dropped him to the back. He became the first Italian to win at Monza since 1966.[4]
The 66-point margin leaves Russell needing multiple results from his teammate to close the gap realistically.
