Hamilton urges serious Ferrari talks after Mexico intra-team clash
Lewis Hamilton called for serious internal talks at Ferrari after an opening-lap battle with teammate Charles Leclerc in Mexico cost the team a likely one-two finish. Hamilton finished second behind Max Verstappen while Leclerc took fourth after a five-second penalty.
Hamilton demands talks
Lewis Hamilton finished second in the Mexico City Grand Prix behind Max Verstappen after an opening-lap incident with Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc.[1]
The clash began when Hamilton started from pole. Leclerc attacked into Turn 4, both drivers ran wide, and Leclerc crossed the grass to take the lead while Hamilton lost momentum and second place to Verstappen.[2]
Leclerc received a five-second penalty for gaining an advantage off track and finished fourth after serving it. Hamilton stated the team had the pace for a one-two result that was lost due to the incident.[1]
Next steps at Ferrari
Hamilton told reporters that rules of engagement were absent and that something needed to change. He said the team must hold serious talks behind the scenes.[3]
The Mexico incident highlights ongoing challenges for Ferrari in managing its two drivers on track when both have competitive pace. Clear protocols may help protect team results in future races where points for the constructors' championship remain at stake.
