Lando Norris took the first grand prix victory of his Formula 1 title defence with victory in the 2026 Hungarian Grand Prix. Piastri was vying for the lead of the race with team mate Lando Norris when he tangled with Sainz while trying to lap the Williams. Although Piastri avoided spinning after the pair made contact at turn three, he lost time which allowed Norris to make his second pit stop and emerge ahead of his team mate. Oscar Piastri was forced to retire from the Hungarian Grand Prix with a gearbox issue. The Australian was running comfortably in second place when the technical problem struck, bringing his race to a premature end. Verstappen's Overachieving Second; Hamilton's Costly Pit Penalty
Verstappen salvaged an unexpected second place after struggling all weekend with the behaviour of his RB22.
