Red Bull extends Mekies contract through 2031

Answer
Confirmed

Red Bull has extended team principal Laurent Mekies' contract until the end of 2031. The announcement follows back-to-back victories by Max Verstappen in Malaysia and Singapore, marking the team's first wins of the 2026 season.

Contract extension confirmed

Red Bull has extended the contract of team principal and CEO Laurent Mekies through the end of 2031.[1] The Frenchman took over the role in July 2025 after Christian Horner departed. The extension was announced on October 14, 2026, during a team debrief at the Milton Keynes factory following Verstappen's victories in Malaysia and Singapore.[2]

Mekies joined Red Bull from the sister Racing Bulls team. Shareholders Chalerm Yoovidhya and Mark Mateschitz stated that he guided the team through transition while upholding Red Bull principles. The move aligns with recent contract renewals for Verstappen through 2030 and teammate Isack Hadjar.[3]

Performance context

The extension signals stability at the top of Red Bull Racing ahead of the United States Grand Prix at Circuit of The Americas. It pairs with driver continuity to support ongoing development efforts.
