McLaren Forgoes Internal Sanction for Norris
McLaren has forgone an internal sporting penalty for Lando Norris after his Singapore Sprint collision with Oscar Piastri. The team reviewed the incident between events and concluded Norris fully understood his error.
McLaren Closes Singapore Review Without Sanction
McLaren will not impose an internal sporting penalty on Lando Norris following his collision with Oscar Piastri in the Singapore Sprint. The team completed its review in the days after the Marina Bay weekend and determined that Norris had acknowledged the unnecessary risk in full.[1]
The contact occurred on the final lap when Norris attempted an inside move at Turn 5 while chasing fourth place. Piastri retired from the incident and Norris finished eighth, costing the team points in the constructors' championship. Stewards took no action after determining both drivers contributed.[2]
Piastri separately confirmed satisfaction with the team's handling in the FIA pre-event press conference.[3]
Decision Reflects Different Context From 2025
The approach marks a shift from the prior season when McLaren applied a light sporting sanction after a similar Singapore contact. This time the emphasis remained on Norris demonstrating understanding rather than additional measures ahead of the Austin weekend.
