Lando Norris took third place for McLaren, ahead of George Russell and Kimi Antonelli for Mercedes. ^[1] Lewis Hamilton ranked sixth for Ferrari, Oscar Piastri was seventh for McLaren, with Gabriel Bortoleto, Arvid Lindblad and Liam Lawson rounding out the top 10. ^[1]

Incidents and Technical Issues

Nico Hulkenberg suffered a technical problem that saw his session end early. ^[2] Audi's preparations were disrupted when Nico Hulkenberg encountered power unit problems. The German initially reported an unusual noise before subsequently complaining of a persistent loss of power. The session proved particularly difficult for Alex Albon. Colton Herta had another practice hour at Cadillac, in place of Sergio Perez as the American took a chance for more Formula 1 experience in free practice. He finished the session 21st, nine tenths behind Valtteri Bottas. ^[1] It was the American's fourth FP1 appearance of the season and a return to the circuit where he scored his first IndyCar victory in 2019. He completed 21 laps, a more useful homecoming than the hydraulic-shortened run he endured at Monza. ^[6]

The session also featured test outings for Arvid Lindblad at Racing Bulls and Colton Herta at Cadillac. Lindblad put in a strong performance to finish ninth with a 1:37.063, ahead of regular driver Liam Lawson in tenth. ^[7]
