COTA unveils new black asphalt surface for US GP
Circuit of the Americas has completed a full repave using 18,076 tons of asphalt ahead of the 2026 United States Grand Prix. The new black surface replaces previous bumpy sections and is expected to produce faster lap times along with potential new records.
New surface at COTA
Circuit of the Americas laid a new asphalt surface comprising 18,076 tons of material in two phases before the 2026 United States Grand Prix.[1]
The work covered the entire 3.41-mile, 20-turn layout after earlier partial resurfacing and bump-grinding efforts. COTA chair Bobby Epstein described the project as overdue and stated that the new surface should lead to fast lap times and some records.
Expected impact
Drivers are set to encounter a shiny new black racing surface at the track. The repave addresses prior complaints about bumps that affected the circuit in recent seasons.
The full resurfacing follows targeted work on sections such as turns 6 through 10 in prior years. Ground-penetrating radar and laser mapping helped identify trouble spots during preparation.
