Broadcast Upgrade Confirmed for COTA Weekend
Apple and Dolby Laboratories confirmed that Formula 1 coverage on Apple TV will include Dolby Atmos starting with the 2026 United States Grand Prix weekend at Circuit of the Americas.[1] The spatial audio format joins Dolby Vision, which has been part of the broadcast since the season began.[2]
The change applies to all sessions for U.S. subscribers with compatible devices, including Apple TV hardware, Dolby-enabled televisions, soundbars, and home theater systems.[3] Apple TV holds exclusive U.S. streaming rights for the season under a multi-year agreement.
Technical Details and Availability
Dolby Atmos delivers object-based sound that positions elements such as engine noise, team radio, commentary, and trackside audio around the listener, including overhead channels where supported.[1] The format builds on the existing 5.1 surround mix previously used.
No additional subscription is required beyond Apple TV access. The upgrade marks the first use of Dolby Atmos for live sports on the platform.[2]
