Next race outlook · Barcelona Grand Prix

Colapinto finished 14th in Monaco after being caught up in the post-restart collision involving Sainz, but has shown encouraging signs in qualifying, running closer to Gasly than expected in the early 2026 rounds. Barcelona, a circuit where he has extensive prior testing experience from junior categories, could be an opportunity to demonstrate his raw one-lap pace on a track with few barriers for error. He will need a trouble-free weekend to score his first points since the early part of the season.

The road to F1

Franco Colapinto began karting at age nine in Pilar, Buenos Aires, winning the Argentine Championship in 2016 and 2018 before relocating to Europe at age fourteen to pursue his career. He claimed the 2019 F4 Spanish Championship with Drivex (11 wins), then progressed through Formula Renault Eurocup, endurance racing (Le Mans, ELMS), FIA Formula 3, and FIA Formula 2 with MP Motorsport. His strong 2023 F3 season (fourth in standings) earned him a place in the Williams Driver Academy, which led to an F1 race debut at the 2024 Italian Grand Prix when he replaced the dropped Logan Sargeant. With no Williams seat available for 2025 due to Carlos Sainz joining the team, Colapinto joined Alpine as a reserve driver and was promoted to a race seat mid-season replacing Jack Doohan, earning a confirmed 2026 race contract alongside Pierre Gasly.
