Next race outlook · Barcelona Grand Prix
Ocon finished ninth in Monaco for Haas, his second points finish this season, though his points tally of three stands significantly below teammate Bearman's 18 points, highlighting an inconsistent campaign. Barcelona's technical demands in high-speed corners are typically a good test of the Haas package, but the team's overall pace will likely keep Ocon in the lower half of the points at best. A clean race free of contact, which some previews have flagged as a risk for him at the start, will be essential.

The road to F1
Esteban Ocon began karting in 2006, winning the French Cadet class in 2008 ahead of Pierre Gasly and Anthoine Hubert; his parents sold their family home and garage to fund his career, living and travelling to races in a caravan. Signed by Gravity Sports Management (a Renault F1 affiliate) at age 14, he progressed to single-seaters in 2012 with Koiranen Motorsport in the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 before winning the 2014 FIA Formula 3 European Championship with Prema ahead of Tom Blomqvist and Max Verstappen, then the 2015 GP3 Series title with ART Grand Prix backed by Mercedes. His F1 debut came mid-2016 at Manor Racing after Rio Haryanto was dropped, replacing him from the Belgian Grand Prix onwards; he secured a full-time seat at Force India for 2017 as part of his multi-year Mercedes development contract.
